MAPWARN
More awareness. Less screen attention.
MAPWARN is a public safety project in beta testing, focused on road awareness. It explores how location, direction of travel and spoken information can help drivers understand what is ahead while reducing the need to look at a screen.
In beta testingFor everyday drivers, with a future focus on learners and instructors
An alert is useful only when it is relevant to the journey. MAPWARN’s development focuses on matching information to the road ahead, presenting it clearly, and using recorded trips to understand where the experience needs improvement.
How it comes together
Information in the context of your trip
Development uses GPS location, travel direction and speed to assess which road information is relevant. Position accuracy and alert timing are part of ongoing road testing.
Spoken awareness cues
Audio-led alerts aim to communicate relevant road information with less screen attention. Coverage depends on the available data and the features enabled in the development build.
Trip review that informs the next build
Recorded trip summaries and event logs help evaluate location quality and alert behaviour after a journey, so real-world feedback can guide improvements.

A roadmap for learning and mentoring
Planned work includes licence-state profiles, learner and provisional-driver experiences, GPS-assisted logbooks, and instructor-guided review. These are roadmap areas rather than a promise of current availability. The aim is to support awareness and learning with clear privacy choices.
A few useful details
Does MAPWARN replace navigation or road signs?
No. It is a supplementary awareness project. Road signs, conditions and the driver’s judgement remain essential; alerts may be delayed, incomplete or unavailable.
Are learner logbooks and instructor tools available?
They are part of the development roadmap. Availability, supported jurisdictions and any recognition of logbook records will need to be established before release.
